Installation Instructions
Items you will need:
- Isopropyl rubbing alcohol (70% solution)
- Water
- Spray bottle
- Lint-free towel
- Scissors
It’s actually quite easy but please read through first before installing!
(NOTE: you can never use too much of the spray solution.)
- Use pure rubbing alcohol and your lint-free towel and clean your door
edges to remove any grease or dirt.
- Mix an alcohol solution of the rubbing alcohol (30%) and water (70%) in
your spray bottle.
- Hold up the roll of film to your door edge and cut the strip about 2”
shorter than the length of the door (you will stretch the difference
throughout the install). Round out any sharp-angled ends to prevent peeling
after the install.
- Spray the alcohol solution on your fingers, making sure you don’t touch
the adhesive backing of the film, then:
- Peel the film from the backing while spraying the alcohol solution on the
adhesive side of the film to keep the film from sticking to itself.
- Starting at the top of the door, place the strip on the edge where you
want the film to start, keeping 75% of the film on the outside of the door
and leaving 25% to be wrapped on the inside of the door edge.
- As you align the film with the door edge, use your thumb to squeegee out
the moisture from the film (spray more alcohol solution on the film as you
do this so it slides easier). Gently stretch the film to pull out any
wrinkles as you go (this is where the 2” stretching comes in).
- When you get to the bottom of the door, cut any excess film, again being
sure to round the edges to avoid peeling up later.
- Let the film dry for about 2 minutes and then use your dry lint-free
towel to firmly wrap the film around the door edge. Move the towel up and
down the edge to ensure the edges are secure and dry.
- If you mess up, just gently pull the door edge off while spraying with
the alcohol solution and try again. Make sure you keep everything, including
your fingers, nice and wet.
You can remove the door edges at a later date by picking at a corner and
then pulling up and away at a 45 degree angle (use a hair dryer to make it
easier). If any adhesive is left, use 3M adhesive remover to clean the
surface.
NOTE: After the film has remained on the door for 10 minutes, the film can
no longer be re-used or lifted and re-applied.
